On 4th May 2019, our School held an orientation programme for the parents of our youngest Foundationers of Pre School. The evening was planned to welcome and acquaint the new parents with the philosophy of our School, the spirit underlying our methodology and also to share some of the wonderful things that are done at TFS!

The parents were welcomed at the entrance by the TIS Senior School band who performed wonderfully.

Tables with floral covers were laid out section wise and the parents were invited to help themselves with scrumptious refreshments. The parents also got a chance to interact with the class teachers and their peers of the section.

As dusk fell, parents were ushered into the auditorium where the School Indian music teachers soulfully sang the customary Diya Jalao hymn as each set of parents lit a diya as a customary practice.

The little diyas placed by the parents in the slots on a wide metal stand gleamed bright and upright and the image of 200 odd little flames on the arms of an unseen stand, was utterly uplifting.

The comperes for the evening (Aryan Panda-VI A, Shaurya Chakravorty-V A and Advya Rajesh-III A) were all set to welcome the parents joyfully. Aryaan shared with the parents that the diya ceremony is symbolic of a little life entrusted to learning. At the end of 14 years, when the children leave School as young adults, the diyas will be handed to them, so that they, now well armed, can step out to light up the world outside. He then invited Headmistress, Ms. Rajika Dixit to do the welcome address.

We were honoured to have with us members of the school board, Dr. Ms. Nayana Goradia, Ms. Brinda Shroff and Ms. Neena Maini as well as the parent body.

Shaurya and Advya then took over. They shared the theme-based learning concept followed at our School.

The choir comprising of students of classes 4 and 5 sang a medley of songs. The students of class 2 performed a Sambhalpuri dance, the students of class 5, 6, 7 and 8 performed the Mayilaattam peacock dance and the students of Pre-primary and class 1 were a part of the trash parade which is a fashion show where the costumes are made out of waste, recycled, reused materials! This gave the parents a clear insight to the schools sustainable policy and the reuse, reduce, recycle mantra we follow. The parents seemed overwhelmed to see such a diversity of display. All the students performed beautifully. The joy to welcome the new family members radiated on each face. The audience could not stop marvelling at the poise!

School Development Advisor, Ms. Susan Thomas then gave the parents a virtual glimpse of the school and shared about all the different and unique things we do here. This included the star of the day, special assemblies, experiential learning and so on.

The evening concluded with Aryan wishing the tiny tots and their parents a wonderful start of a rich journey. The choir then sang the School song.
